At Little Scholar we believe that the building blocks for learning are founded in early childhood and there is a strong connection between social, emotional academic learning and success in life.
To achieve this, we aim to create a successful medium between a children’s social /emotional needs and their enormous capacity to learn at an early age. We, at Little Scholar Preshool , have based our teaching philosophy on a balanced approach of Learning through Discovery and Academic approach.
Learning through Discovery includes programs with a focus on child – directed activities . Teachers serve as guides and plan activities based on children’s developmental level . The aim of these activities is to allow :
- Children to be motivated to explore and learn
- Through interaction construct an understating of cognitive operations ( relationships, cause and effect )
- Children’s self confidence and creativity to be enhanced
Academic Approach focuses on formal academic experience that provides children an important and valuable early start to school . The focus of this approach is
- Preparing Preschools for school
- Exposing them to new technologies
- Capitalizing on their ability to learn
To incorporate the best of both philosophies we have designed our daily program to include planned and directed activities by teachers and free play and discovery time.
A typical Daily program would be :
8:00 - 8:30 Arrival time and free play
8:30 - 9:00 Free choice activities
9:00 - 9:30 Small group activities
9:30 - 9:45 Snack time
9:45 - 10:15 Large group organized activities
10:15 - 10:45 Small group activities
10:45 - 11:15 Free choice activities
11:15 - 11:30 Clean up
11:30 - 12:00 Outside/large group activities
Keeping our philosophy in perspective , our daily program aims to ensure that we provide positive structure and well planned day with built in support that helps children feel secure which is critical to the children’s behavior, well‐being, and receptiveness to learning.
